• Well, last January I stayed in a flat on the Paseo del Prado booked through Madrid Rooms and the rates were reasonable enough.  You get your own room (with key, important to ensure you lock it EVERYTIME you're not in the room, that incl. going to the bathroom, popping into the kitchen to make a sandwich, as my travel bag was stolen from right under my nose, luckily it was just the bag sans contents :-)) and your own shelf in a fridge and kitchen press to store your food.  Your flatmates will probably be TEFL students from the US, studying in EBC or Canterbury but theoretically they could be from anywhere.
